Superintendent's News
Bolivar R-1 School Superintendent
Dr. Jason Dial

Announcements
Snow days updates are just a Tweet away – and other ways to stay informed

If you are like me, the first semester seems to be flying by at warp speed. I just realized that it’s almost winter break and we've gone from beautiful fall weather to bitter cold temperatures and snow on the ground. This week many families' have had to deal with school being cancelled and childcare during those times can be difficult to find at the last minute.
At the Bolivar R-1 School District, we use a team approach when gathering information related to possible cancellation of school. I work closely with Russ Martin, our transportation contractor.  If winter weather is anticipated overnight, we are awake several hours before the decision to cancel school is even considered as we monitor forecasts from the National Weather Service out of Springfield and drive the roads in various parts of our large 165-square-mile district. We collaborate throughout the early morning, seeking to make the cancellation decision by 5:30 a.m. whenever possible.
Working closely with Mr. Martin, I make the final snow-day determination based on forecasts, temperatures, wind chill and the condition of roadways, sidewalks and other walkways.
Once the decision is made, families have a growing number of ways to learn about snow days. I recently launched a Superintendent's Twitter account, available at @dial_jason, where I will be tweeting news about school closings very soon after the decision is made. Please consider following me on Twitter and receiving news about our school district as well as state and national education updates. If you are not yet on Twitter and want to join, go to http://twitter.com and follow the directions. It is an easy sign-up process and will allow you to receive a wide variety of news and updates – all condensed to 140 characters or less.
Bolivar R-1 School District additional communications regarding snow days include our School Reach recorded phone calls, which go to all families and staff members; and local media.
Like many of our parents – but perhaps not so many of our students – I'd prefer to avoid any serious winter storms this year.  I believe we should count our blessings that we stayed north of the worst part of the most recent winter storm.

Stay safe and warm,
Dr. Jason Dial

Letter from the Superintendent
Dear Students, Parents and Patrons,

Welcome to the website for the Bolivar R-1 School District.  We hope by providing this website we can give you a glimpse of the wonderful things happening within the Bolivar School District. We are committed to providing a high level of education for each student.  It takes a team of students, staff and community members to achieve our high level of distinction.

The district has achieved Accreditation with Distinction for the past several years on the Annual Performance Report reviewed by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.  We are also proud to say that Bolivar High School has been recognized by the United States Department of Education as a Blue Ribbon School.  These accomplishments are due to our devoted teachers and staff that serve our children every day as well as our supportive community members.

Our Board of Education has put us in a stable financial situation through sound fiscal management and oversight of the district budget.  Because of that fiscal responsibility we have been able to replace positions as well as hire new staff due to increased enrollment numbers.  We strive to be good stewards of our taxpayers’ dollars while still providing a quality education.

Finally, I would like to thank you for your support of our kids and district each year.  The continued support of our community, teachers and families allows us to provide a truly exceptional learning environment for our students.  I am honored to serve as Superintendent of the Bolivar R-1 School District and I look forward to an exciting future.

Sincerely,

Jason C. Dial Ed.D
